Taiwanese star Sharon Hsu, 42, recently found herself in a situation no parent would ever want to be in.
The actress-singer discovered her 10-month-old daughter, Te Te, looking like she was choking on something. She suspected Te Te might have food stuck in her throat, and asked her husband, actor Edison Wang, to perform the Heimlich manoeuvre on their baby. She also tried digging the food out of Te Te’s mouth. Sharon added that Te Te's face started to turn pale and appeared in pain. She also looked like she was going to faint from a lack of oxygen. "I was panicking, and I started to feel dizzy as my mind went blank,” wrote Sharon. Just as Sharon was about to call an ambulance, Te Te threw up blood and a small open safety pin, which the kid must have found on the ground while crawling around. “My soul returned to my body when I saw that you were feeling much better and that you could breathe properly,” recalled Sharon. Sharon and Edison then brought their baby to the hospital for a detailed check-up. The doctor later confirmed that Te Te did not ingest anything else, and that there wasn’t much damage done to her throat. Sharon now blames herself for the incident. “Dad and Mum were really careless. We thought we were going to lose you. At that moment, we felt as though we had failed as parents. We didn’t take good care of you, and almost made you lose your life,” she recounted. Accidents happen, but here's a PSA to all parents to be careful of dangerous items that may be laying around the house.

Mediacorp actor Benjamin Tan, 31, earned his first Star Awards Top 10 Most Popular Male Artiste trophy last month after five years in showbiz.
When reporters spoke to him backstage after his win, Ben candidly revealed that he created 10 accounts to vote for himself. Of course, that was far from enough to guarantee a win. His fan club, Bentective FC, went all out to ensure their idol made it on stage, and Ben promised to “repay them for everything”. And repay them he did. Ben treated 11 of his fans to a vegetarian dinner at Desker Road’s Fo You Yuan restaurant. Why a vegetarian meal, you might wonder? Ben’s fans actually went on a vegetarian diet for almost a month before the Star Awards, so he would be blessed by the Gods to get his first win. Speaking to reporters, Ben reveals: “I didn’t know beforehand that they were going to do this for me. I came to know about it when my fans tagged me in their IG stories. Initially, I thought it was a one-off thing. I remember they had a vegetarian meal on March 28 as it was the birthday of The Goddess of Mercy. “However, I found out they actually went vegetarian for a long period. They also tagged me on numerous occasions, around four times, whenever they visited the Kwan Im Thong Hood Cho temple at Waterloo Street on the weekends to pray for me,” continues Ben. “I am really grateful because even for myself, the most I did was pray in my mind at home and hope for the best.” He believes their unconventional efforts and sincerity played a part in him winning the award. He tells us: “I am a superstitious person. I’m sure the prayers of my fans touched the hearts of those they prayed to. On top of that, I strongly believe that it was also the relentless voting efforts of my fans that got me on stage.” Ben is thankful that he had the opportunity to interact with his supporters during the dinner. The group was chosen by his fan club leader, and one of the members even brought their young daughter to the gathering. “I took the girl to the ice-cream shop opposite the restaurant to get her an ice-cream since she was looking at the store through the windows,” he laughs. “One of my fans is actually vegetarian, so this was the first time she was able to make it for our meal gathering!” adds Ben, who says he will hold more gatherings at places that that cater to vegetarians so that fan can always be included. Courtney Love Slams Taylor Swift as ‘Not Important’ & Calls Out Beyonce, & More in New Interview5/9/2024 Courtney Love did not hold back when sharing her thoughts on the current crop of the biggest popstars in the world. The alt-rock icon, 59, didn’t mince words in letting people know where she stands in terms of the music of Taylor Swift, Lana Del Rey, Madonna, and Beyoncé. She’s simply not a fan. The singer, who was married to Kurt Cobain, took shots at each singer.
Seeing as Courtney’s new BBC show is titled Courtney Love’s women, she discussed some of the most famous women in the music business. In terms of 2024, it’s hard to be bigger than Taylor Swift, and despite many people singing the “All Too Well” singer’s praises, Courtney’s definitely not a Swiftie. “Taylor is not important. She might be a safe space for girls, and she’s probably the Madonna of now, but she’s not interesting as an artist,” she told The Standard. Another woman that cannot be left out of the conversation when discussing the biggest popstars in the world is Beyoncé. While Courtney supports the idea of Cowboy Carter, she also made it clear that she doesn’t vibe with the music. ” like the idea of Beyoncé doing a country record because it’s about Black women going into spaces where previously only white women have been allowed, not that I like it much. As a concept, I love it. I just don’t like her music,” she said. Speaking of popstars doing country songs, Courtney also called out Lana Del Rey for covering a country classic, advising her to take some time away. “I haven’t liked Lana since she covered a John Denver song, and I think she should really take seven years off. Up until ‘Take Me Home Country Roads’ I thought she was great,” she said, before admitting that she was a fan of her earlier work. “When I was recording my new album, I had to stop listening to her as she was influencing me too much.” To go back to Madonna, Courtney made it known that she’s definitely not a fan, and even made a jab at one of Madge’s most popular movies. “I don’t like her and she doesn’t like me. I loved Desperately Seeking Susan, but for the city of New York as much as her,” she said. When it comes to female artists that Courtney is a fan of, she named punk icon Patti Smith, Nine Simone, alt-rock singer-songwriter PJ Harvey, jazz singer Julie London, and Joni Mitchell, as well as Debbie Harry and Blondie. Ryan Gosling‘s recent Saturday Night Live hosting gig was full of laughs, but the end of the night was all love! The 43-year-old actor closed out the evening with a sweet shout-out to Eva Mendes and their daughters, Esmeralda and Amada. After thanking the cast, crew and Emily Blunt for joining him for the April 13 episode, Ryan shouted, “Eva, [Esmeralda], [Amada], I love you!”
During one of the skits that night, Eva’s name was also mentioned. While the Barbie star imitated a Cuban accent with Marcello Hernandez and Kenan Thompson, Marcello’s character teased that “a lot of celebrities” were going to be at a club, including Eva, which Ryan reacted with a surprised facial expression. Not only that, but Ryan’s character even joked that a “Cuban wife” can change a man. Although Eva, 50, was born in Miami, she was raised by Cuban parents. The actress poked fun at Ryan’s hilarious skit by sharing a video to Instagram, that was captioned, “Oye! Back in L.A. with my ‘Cuban Papi.’” Ryan tends to keep his and Eva’s relationship out of his public comments and appearances. The couple have not attended a red carpet premiere together since they filmed their 2012 movie, The Place Beyond the Pines. They met on the set of the film in 2011. Nevertheless, Eva hasn’t hesitated to share sweet shout-outs and comments about Ryan on her Instagram account. She also recalled how they met and Ryan’s dedication to his craft during an interview with TODAY last month. “I have never experienced anything like that. The way he works, his commitment to his craft, how he wants to make everything as best as it could be, and that means making his co-stars as best as they could be,” Eva noted. The mom of two then pointed out that she chose to stop auditioning for new film roles after becoming a mother to her and Ryan’s daughters — a decision that was a “no brainer” for her. “But unfortunately, or fortunately, there is only one Ryan. So, I pretty much stopped just acting after that,” she said. “It was almost just like a non-verbal agreement that it was like, ‘OK, he’s going to work, and I’m going to work. I’m just going to work here.’ He went and he did his job. He just happens to be really good at his job. And he did it, and he came home.” Roger Kwok & Wife Divorce After 18 Years Of Marriage, Says Split Was “Inevitable And Difficult”5/9/2024 Hong Kong actor Roger Kwok, 59, and his wife, former TVB actress Cindy Au, 44, have ended their marriage after 18 years.
The couple, who have a 16-year-old son Brad, and a daughter, Blair, 13, released similar statements on their respective Instagram accounts last night (May 2), saying that they have been living apart for two years. "After careful consideration and communication, we have decided to divorce. This decision is inevitable and difficult... Grateful that we have supported each other and worked hard for the family. We give each other our greatest blessings,” read their announcement. The news came as a surprise as they were once deemed as a model couple in Hong Kong's showbiz scene. Roger and Cindy met while filming a travel show in 1999 and tied the knot in Hong Kong Disneyland in 2006. Cindy faded out of the limelight after marriage to focus on taking care of her family, and later pursued a master’s degree in nutrition. The couple has been through their fair share of ups and downs over the years. In 2016, Roger fell into depression while filming TVB drama Dead Wrong. He played a man who was trapped in the mountains for 10 years and obsessed with seeking revenge. The couple grew apart and often argued over how they should raise their children. Things got so bad that Roger contemplated divorce. They managed to rekindle the relationship by spending more quality time as couple. Hong Kong star Louis Koo, 53, may be known for his cool, suave image, but he recently showed that he isn’t afraid to laugh at himself when he gamely wore a women's swimsuit on screen.
The actor was a guest on YouTube channel Black Box Office’s series A Step Into The Thai, in which he and host Mixed Fat Boy had to take part in various challenges while exploring Bangkok. In the last episode, they drew lots to find out their punishment and Louis had to wear a swimsuit. He was given three types of swimwear to choose: an avocado-print swim shorts, long-sleeved rash guard paired with Speedos, and a women's swimsuit. You’d think Louis would protest or at least complain after seeing the options, but he immediately picked the swimsuit, which was the most covered up, and gamely changed into it. Though scenes of the actor in the one-piece were only available to the channel’s paid members, as we all know, nothing remains hidden on the internet and images of a swimsuit-clad Louis soon went viral online. In the pics, a sporting Louis could be seen posing for the camera and showing off his fit physique. Zheng Geping turns 60 on May 27 but it seems there will be no singing of birthday songs this year.
In an interview with reporters, the veteran actor said he plans to be low-key about the big day and has even told relatives and friends that they are not allowed to celebrate his birthday this year. “I have made it clear to them that I don’t want any birthday surprises, otherwise I would fall out [with them],” he says. According to traditional Chinese beliefs, celebrating milestone birthdays is a no-no. To those who believe that, turning 60 also marks “the end of life” and celebrating it may bring bad luck. For Geping, he said multiple numerology masters have reminded him of the taboo should there be any celebration this year. However, he also explained that not having any celebrations is not due to religious or superstitious factors but because he never had the habit. His celebrations in previous years were always initiated by others and Geping is grateful to the many who remember this birthday. Though the man is insistent on not marking the big 60 in any way, he revealed that a second fitness book is in the works. The hunkle’s first book, Star Fitness, was published in 2013 more than a decade ago. We thought Mediacorp actor Chen Xi has just been busy studying arts management in the UK since last September. Turns out, he secretly had other big plans going on there as well.
The 32-year-old son of Xiang Yun and Edmund Chen, took to his Instagram to share that he is now engaged. Chen Xi wrote: "From the Land of The Rising Sun, across the seas, and all the way to England — thank you for being my anchor, my compass, and my home from home." “I know it wasn't easy making the decision to follow me, and indeed, we've faced tumultuous times with constantly changing contexts. Despite the variations and shifting environments, having you by my side has been the constant.” There was also a message in Japanese, which roughly translates to: "Thank you so much for being by my side. I love ya. Let's write the next chapter together." Chen Xi also shared a series of photos taken at a chapel. The first picture showed him and a woman taken from the back and the last photo was a close-up of his hand holding a woman’s hand with a diamond ring on her fourth finger. When reporters reached out to Chen Xi, he reveals that his fiancée Mimi is Japanese, works in IT, and is “slightly younger” than him. He also shares that the engagement happened only two days ago when the couple were out with Chen Xi's cousin for the latter's birthday. “I already had the ring in my pocket and was wondering when would be a good time [to pop the question]," he recalls. He finally found the perfect moment when they were in an "atas" 17th-century manor with a chapel in Northern England. "It was raining outside and I was like: 'Hey this is a very nice-looking church, lighting is good' so I seized the opportunity and went for it," he says. "In Singapore, people are like, I must plan this and that, I need balloons and stuff. But I'm here [in London] and I have literally no connections, so I just memorised my proposal in Japanese. It was tough," he laughs. That said, Chen Xi did inform his family, who are in Singapore, about the proposal, but told them he had "no idea" when and how it was going to happen. Chen Xi has no concrete plans for their wedding as of now. Finishing up his masters comes first — he will graduate in January next year — and "then we’ll move forward from there,” he says. His relationship with Mimi, Chen Xi says, was unexpected. They got to know each other four years ago in Singapore, right in the midst of the pandemic, when he signed up for an online language-exchange app. "When I met her, it wasn't like I was trying to date her or anything. I was just trying to learn Japanese," he chuckles. "We just started from there and she was like: 'I want to learn Singlish!' and I said: 'Sure I can teach you Singlish!'” They hit it off and gradually became an item. In fact, everything happened so naturally, Chen Xi can’t pinpoint the exact moment they started dating. "We have known each other for four years. Details wise, it's hard for me to give you a definite answer also," he laughs. "It really wasn't anything at first because, when we got to know each other, she was still in Vietnam [for work]. Then the lockdown happened and we all couldn't work so I just tried to brush up my Japanese, and the friendship just developed from there," he says, adding that they were merely "online penpals" initially. Chen Xi says he made sure his family — namely his mum, dad and younger sister Chen Yixin — got to know Mimi before taking things to the next stage. "When she came to Singapore, I was like: 'Let me take you around!' and my family has always been very welcoming. They would be like: 'Come let's go for chicken rice! Let's try bak kut teh!'," he shares, adding that it's been a bit of a "cross-cultural journey". When asked if there's a language barrier between his family and Mimi, the actor says it hasn’t been an issue since they can all converse in English. "But my mum is more comfortable with Mandarin, so we go slow and try to communicate at our best," he explains. It wasn’t all smooth-sailing for the couple. Chen Xi says he thought he and Mimi would have to call it quits when he decided to pursue his studies in the UK last year. "When I finalised my trip to the UK, I thought: 'Sorry everybody, this isn't gonna work out'. Then she told me that she got a visa [to work in England]!" says Chen Xi. Thanks to the remote nature of her work, Mimi was able to find a job in the UK. It allowed her to move there with Chen Xi, and their relationship blossomed after. "That's why I said, everything just worked out so smoothly," he chirps. Selena Gomez is sick of those same old false rumors, like the one about her and John “Jack” Schlossberg. In response to claims that she had a relationship with John F. Kennedy‘s grandson, the 31-year-old actress responded in a public comment via social media.
Recently, an Instagram account posted a screenshot of a message that read, “According to a few tabloids, Selena Gomez and John Kennedy Schlossberg had an affair from 2020 to 2021. The grandson of the U.S. president John Kennedy offered her the White House, and she fell for it.” Selena promptly commented, “Never met this human sorry,” effectively shutting down the baseless rumor. For his part, John, 31, has not publicly commented on the false report. Meanwhile, Selena has been enjoying her relationship with boyfriend Benny Blanco. The two had been collaborators on her music over the years and began dating in mid-2023. However, the Only Murders in the Building actress didn’t confirm their romance until December 2023. Since then, the “Same Old Love” artist and the record producer, 36, have been sharing their sweetest moments with fans. In January, Benny was Selena’s date to the Golden Globe Awards. That evening, she posted a picture of them kissing, captioning the Instagram Story, “I won,” despite not taking home an award for the night. In February, Selena spoke to Apple Music’s Zane Lowe about her single “Love On,” which many fans speculated was about her blossoming love with Benny. However, the Wizards of Waverly Place star noted that the song was simply inspired by her time in Paris, a place that felt “romantic” to her. “Without getting into too much detail, I think it’s just really important to meet someone that respects you,” Selena said, seemingly referring to her romance with Benny. “And I think it’s really nice to also lean on someone who understands the world that I live in. But I’d have to say overall it’s the safest that I feel and it’s been really lovely and I’ve only grown through it, so it’s awesome.” Last month, however, the happy couple had to navigate a temporary period of long distance, which Selena revealed in an Instagram Stories post. She shared a photo of a pink card that Benny made for her, which read, “Happy first virtual date!” “#Longdistancerelationship vibes,” Selena wrote across the snapshot at the time. Would you be okay if one of your closest friends marries your ex-boyfriend?
For Taiwanese actress Rainie Yang, 39, the answer is most probably... No. Recently, a netizen took to Taiwanese social media platform Dcard to write a post titled: "Rainie Yang doesn't follow Tiffany Ann Hsu on Instagram". Tiffany, 39, is married to Taiwanese actor Roy Chiu, 42, who just so happens to be Rainie's ex. Rainie and Roy, who starred together in 2003 idol drama Original Scent of Summer, reportedly dated for eight months before calling it quits. Rainie once hinted that her most unpleasant breakup was with a fellow celebrity, leading to speculations that she and Roy had ended things on bad terms. Interestingly, Rainie and Tiffany have been pals since they were classmates at the Taipei Hwa Kang Arts School. The two stars were part of a close-knit clique, named 'Hwa Kang Wu Ren Bang', with late Taiwanese actor Alien Huang and two other friends who are not in showbiz. According to the netizen who wrote the post, Rainie and Tiffany drifted apart after the latter married Roy in 2021. Rainie also follows everyone in the clique on Instagram, except Tiffany. "I used to like Hwa Kang Wu Ren Bang. I really admired how they were friends since high school but now it looks like things can never be the same again...," lamented the netizen. Another netizen pointed out that Tiffany still follows Rainie on IG, but also highlighted how the clique hasn't hung out as often after Tiffany got hitched. Instead, they would have separate meetups. Not everyone thinks Rainie not following Tiffany is a big deal. "Does it really matter whether or not they follow each other?" questioned one such netizen. Some also argue that Rainie has already patched things up with Roy. Back in 2018, Rainie congratulated Roy for winning Best Actor at the Golden Horse Awards for his performance in Dear Ex. When Tiffany and Roy announced their marriage, Rainie, who married Chinese singer Li Ronghao in 2019, also gave the couple her blessings. |
