Taiwan's CuboAI CEO indicted for murdering CTO

​TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Taipei District Prosecutors Office has indicted CuboAi CEO Thomas Tseng (曾志新) on murder charges for allegedly fatally stabbing the company’s CTO in March.

Prosecutors said Tseng and CTO Liang Tzu-ling (梁子凌) had repeatedly clashed over work-related issues, leading to mounting animosity. On Feb. 26 at around 12:27 p.m., Tseng went to a Nitori home goods store in Taipei’s Zhongshan District to purchase a chef’s knife, which he later hid in a cabinet at the company’s office.

On March 6, Liang posted an article in the company’s internal chat group criticizing CuboAi's management. Knowing that Liang was set to resign the following day, Tseng invited Liang and the HR director, surnamed Lu (盧), for a 4 p.m. meeting on March 7 to handle the departure.

Tseng concealed the knife in the chest pocket of his vest before attending the meeting. As the three discussed whether to retract Liang’s article, Tseng feigned leaving the room and, once behind Liang, stabbed him at least nine times in the head, back, and neck.

Lu tried to stop Tseng and shouted for help, prompting two other managers to rush into the conference room. Tseng then attempted to take his own life with the knife, but was restrained by Lu and the others.

Liang was rushed to the hospital but died at 5:13 p.m. from heavy bleeding caused by a punctured upper left lung and multiple other injuries. 

Prosecutors formally indicted Tseng on Tuesday. The case will be tried under the Citizen Judges Act at the Taipei District Court.
