Taiwanese singer and actress Na Tang passes away

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Singer, actress, writer and yoga instructor Na Tang (坣娜) has died at the age of 59 after a battle with pancreatic cancer.

Tang reportedly passed away on Oct. 16, but the death was not reported until Wednesday. She had been ill with the autoimmune disease lupus for many years.

Also known as Nana Tang, she entered the entertainment industry at age 14 and released her debut album in 1986.

She left the entertainment industry in 2000 to focus on yoga but still occasionally performed. She founded the yoga company TangYoga and also provided free yoga lessons to people with cancer.

Some of her popular songs include “Freedom” (自由) and “Longing for Love” (奢求), and she starred in the TV drama “Pearl Love” (還君明珠).

Tang is survived by her husband, Jeffrey D. Schwartz, with whom she promoted the Jewish community in Taiwan. She was a founding member of the Jewish Taiwan Cultural Association and helped establish the Jewish Community Center in 2021, which housed the nation’s first synagogue.
