New Taipei Mayor Hou Yu-ih (侯友宜) said the Metro Sanying Line is expected to open by midyear, which is expected to significantly shorten commuting time to Taipei and connect with Taoyuan’s metro system.

The 14.29-km elevated metro line passes through the Tucheng, Sanxia, and Yingge Districts. It has 12 stations and connects to Dingpu Station on the Taipei Metro Bannan Line.

The city government said the line was completed in April and is undergoing testing and train preparation. Hou estimated the line will serve about 40,000 passengers daily.

During the initial phase of operations, trains will run at six-minute intervals during peak hours, with plans to reduce the minimum interval to two minutes, the city government said.

The Bannan Line sees heavy passenger volumes during peak hours, with some stations experiencing long waits before boarding. In response, New Taipei Rapid Transit Systems Department Director Li Cheng-an (李政安) said about 10 additional trains will be deployed during peak hours to ease the extra passenger load brought by the Sanying Line’s connection to the Bannan Line.

The Cabinet approved a project to connect the Sanying Line with the Taoyuan Metro Green Line. The approximately 4-km extension will include two elevated stations and one underground station.

According to the Taoyuan City Government, the project will be jointly built with the New Taipei City Government, with operations expected to begin in 2034. The extension will help improve commuting between Taoyuan and Greater Taipei and is expected to boost urban development in Taoyuan.

The 9.5-km underground Wanda–Zhonghe Line, running from Zhongzheng District in Taipei to Tucheng District in New Taipei, is scheduled for completion by the end of next year and is set to open in 2028. Hou added the line will connect the Tamsui-Xinyi Line, Circular Line, and Bannan Line, helping to improve travel across the Greater Taipei area.
