 Katong Mei Wei Chicken Rice, a staple in Singapore’s chicken rice scene since 1988, has expanded with a new outlet in Telok Ayer. Located at ICON Link@ClubStreet, this opening marks the brand’s third location, following its original stall in Katong Shopping Centre and a second outlet at East Village in Bedok. The new Telok Ayer branch, named Katong Mei Wei Express, is situated in the underground mall that connects the hotel to Telok Ayer MRT Station, making it a convenient stop for office workers and commuters. While the space is primarily designed for takeaway, it accommodates a small number of dine-in customers. You can expect the eatery to be full during the peak lunch hour, considering it is situated in the CBD.  For those who don’t know, Katong Mei Wei has been around since 1988. Their OG stall at Katong Shopping Centre often sports long queues, with fans returning for their roasted and steamed chicken, paired with turmeric-infused rice and accompaniments such as soup and achar.  Their chicken is topped with fried garlic bits for extra flavour and is consistently tender. The yellow rice, fragrant but not overly seasoned, pairs well with the savoury chicken. Over at Katong Mei Wei Express, prices start at $8.80 for a Regular Chicken Rice, which comes with a serving of chicken, rice, achar, a bowl of soup, and condiments. If you’re sharing with your colleagues, the outlet offers bigger portions: a Quarter Chicken is $16.80, a Half Chicken is $22, and a Whole Chicken goes for $42. Despite being new, the Telok Ayer outlet has received positive feedback online, with patrons noting that the quality is consistent with the main Katong location.  If you’re visiting their OG Katong outlet, we recommend dropping by during off-peak hours to avoid the queues.
