Singapore’s OG Korean Fried Chicken Opens Street Food Kiosk At Orchard

11/17/2025

Picture
Known for being Singapore’s first Korean fried chicken store, Kko Kko Na Ra has returned to the scene, opening its first express outlet at Takashimaya Shopping Centre! This time, they’re serving up a variety of Korean street food favourites, alongside their beloved fried chicken recipes.

Founded in 2008 by chef-owner Eon Lee and her niece Annabelle, Kko Kko Na Ra first opened in the heart of Tanjong Pagar—then a budding “Korea Town.” It has since relocated to Tras Street, where it continues to uphold its legacy of serving authentic Korean fried chicken.
Picture
What you’ll find at Kko Kko Na Ra Express is markedly different. In addition to their signature fried chicken, you’ll find a lineup of beloved Korean street food classics enjoyed by all ages, some of which are exclusive to the Express outlet.
Picture
Of course, we have to start with their Yangnyum Chicken (from $12), with its sweet-spicy marinade that is found in every Korean fried chicken parlour. You can also find their Original Chicken and Soy Garlic Chicken starting from $10.
Picture
Each piece of chicken wing and drumstick was sizeable, crispy and drenched in the yangnyum sauce. I loved how subtly sweet and spicy this sauce was, as I’m usually not a fan of its cloyingly sweet nature. This was rather enjoyable, especially with its notes of yuzu, which I’m told is its secret ingredient.
Picture
The Kimchi Pancake ($12++) is a well-known favourite, and it was a winner here with its tangy, fermented richness and use of apples and pears. Fun fact, many of Kko Kko Na Ra’s ingredients are imported directly from Korea!
Picture
Korean Egg Bread (from $4.50 each), or gyeran-ppang, made an appearance on CNN’s Top 50 Breads Around The World, and is a common breakfast and snack item.
Picture
While deceptively simple, it was fluffy and sweet, and had a buttery-soft texture that was pleasant to sink our teeth into.
Picture
We loved this Giant Green Pepper Japchae (from $6.50)—a huge green chilli pepper stuffed with stir-fried Korean glass noodles and then deep-fried. Its crispy exterior contrasted nicely with the soft noodles within, while the smoky flavours were enhanced by the peppery kick that was not overly spicy.
Picture
You’ll also find freshly-steamed Mandu ($5.50 for four pieces) here, a well-loved Korean dumpling variant that is stuffed with kimchi. We enjoyed these pockets as a great appetiser for the chicken.

Those pining for Korean chicken and street food can find Kko Kko Na Ra Express at Takashimaya Food Hall, a five-minute walk from Orchard MRT Station.

Address: 391A Orchard Road, #B207-6-2, Takashimaya Department Store, Food Hall, Singapore 238873
Opening hours: Daily 10am to 9:30pm

Freehold three-storey terraced house at Jalan Jintan up for auction at $6.9 mil

11/14/2025

Picture
A freehold terraced house located along Jalan Jintan, off Orchard Road in prime District 9, will be on the block at Knight Frank’s upcoming property auction on Nov 20. The property has a guide price of $6.9 million, which translates to $4,182 psf based on its land area of 1,650 sq ft.

An owner’s sale, this is the first time the property is being auctioned, according to Sharon Lee, head of auction and sales at Knight Frank Singapore. “We expect steady interest, primarily from families looking for a move-in-ready freehold home in a prime central location,” she adds.

The house has a built-up area of around 4,136 sq ft spanning three storeys, an attic and a basement. The first level of the six-bedroom house features a living area with double-volume ceilings, a dining area, a kitchen and a powder room. There is also a car porch, which can accommodate two cars.

The second level houses a family area overlooking the living room, along with two bedrooms and a common bathroom. The third floor comprises the en suite master bedroom with a walk-in wardrobe, as well as another common bedroom and bathroom. Both bedrooms on this level open to private balcony areas.

The attic level features a bedroom and a swimming pool, while the basement has an entertainment room and a helper’s room. The property is also fitted with a private lift serving all levels.

The house is nestled within Kimsia Park, a mixed landed enclave located off Nutmeg Road. The small neighbourhood comprises landed properties along Jalan Jintan, Jalan Lada Puteh and Jalan Kayu Manis.

Located just behind the Orchard Road shopping belt, the property is within walking distance of Orchard MRT Station on the North-South and Thomson-East Coast Lines. The property is also close to malls such as Scotts Square, Paragon and Ngee Ann City.

Lee adds: “Freehold landed homes here are limited in supply and rarely available for sale, so each listing tends to attract solid interest from both end-users and long-term investors.”

Based on URA caveats lodged, two properties within the Kimsia Park enclave have changed hands so far in 2025. The most recent transaction took place on July 28, when a freehold terraced house along Jalan Lada Puteh with a land area of 2,210 sq ft was sold for around $6.94 million ($3,140 psf). Prior to that, another freehold terraced house along Jalan Jintan with a land area of 1,629 sq ft changed hands for $5.75 million ($3,531 psf) on Feb 28.

Frasers Property's profit rises 17.8% YoY in FY 2025

11/14/2025

Picture
Frasers Property (FPL) reported a 17.8% year-on-year (YoY) gain in profit after interest, fair value change, tax and exceptional items, and non-controlling interests of $243.1m for the 12 months ended September 2025.

Profit before interest, tax, fair value change, exceptional items and non-controlling interests fell by 12.3% YoY to $1.18b whilst revenue declined by 19.2% YoY to $3.4b.

This is due to lower residential contributions across most markets, primarily due to the timing of project settlements and impairments on certain projects.

The company proposed a first and final dividend of $0.045.

FPL's full-year performance reflected ongoing macroeconomic headwinds and the inherent lumpiness of residential contributions, said group CEO Panote Sirivadhanabhakdi. The company's resilient recurring income base and net fair value change supported earnings, he said.

"We recognise the challenges ahead. We are taking disciplined steps to strengthen performance and protect value ,with a clear focus on delivering near -term outcomes , while staying committed to our long-term goals," Sirivadhanabhakdi said.

FPL's long-term priorities include portfolio rebalancing and capital efficiency is shaping, he said.

Check Out These Environmentally Friendly Alternatives To Drinking Bottled Water

11/14/2025

Picture
The war on plastic waste is raging greater than it ever has and thank goodness because according to research by National Geographic, 91% of all plastic is not recycled. So if it’s not being recycled where the heck is it going?

Yep you’ve guessed it – dumped as and where people see fit, emptied from our rubbish bins into landfill where some plastics can take up to hundreds of years to properly break down and decompose, and worst of all it’s ending up in our oceans where it is causing all kinds of environmental havoc. From wrecking animal habitats, causing damage to birds, marine animals and fish, not to mention how much it’s affecting the animal food chain, it is also starting to creep into our own food chain, the implications of which are huge.

Did you know that in the UK alone a whopping 38.5 million plastic bottles are used every day and according to an article by the Guardian this will increase by 20% come the year 2021 working out as a staggering 20,000 bottles being bought every second. Which means unless we start doing something about it now, the world is going to be in a right old state in the not so distant future.

What Can We Do About It?

These days the majority of plastic bottles are made from a type of plastic called polyethylene terephthalate (Pet), which is easily recycled. However, as consumption rises and unfortunately the number of people who recycle their bottles is nowhere near as high, it’s like fighting a losing battle. Aside from upping our recycling game there are other things we can do that will help, including some environmentally friendly alternatives to drinking bottled water in the first place.

For example, a growing number of cafés and restaurants are now offering their customers free refills if they present them with their own reusable water bottles. And that’s the thing isn’t it, we don’t actually need to buy bottles of water when we can fill up our own at home and take them around with us. It’s a question of forming good habits and not being so reliant on the quick and easy options all the time.

I understand that some people don’t like the taste of tap water, I’m personally OK with it but when I’ve stayed in other parts of the country I can definitely taste a difference and I haven’t liked it. However that’s not much of an excuse considering there are so many different types of decent water filter systems out there that can help solve this problem. If you’d like to find out more about this head on over to waterfilteranswers.com and discover the best water filters currently on the market and the options available to you.

Buying bottled water isn’t just bad for the environment but it’s also not doing your wallet any favours either. And even if you invest in a water filter and a couple of reusable flasks or drinks canisters, over time it’s going to work out way cheaper than the amount you’d spend on buying individual throw away bottles of water.

Really we’re left with no choice, and it’s not exactly a life changing decision to have to make. We’re fortunate enough that in the western world we have clean and safe drinking water quite literally on tap, so let’s stop this excessive over consumption of plastic and do our bit.

Everything You Need To Know About Reusable Cotton Rounds

11/14/2025

Picture
Did you know that it will require 101 gallons of water to produce one pound of cotton? If you think of our environment’s welfare, it’s time to ditch the disposable cotton rounds, and it is best to resort to reusable products. Many people are now using reusable cotton rounds, and so far, there were only positive feedbacks. So here’s everything you need to know about reusable organic cotton rounds, its benefits, and your possible significant savings from using this product.

What Are Reusable Cotton Rounds Used For?

Reusable cotton rounds are sustainable alternatives to disposable cotton. Most of these reusable cotton rounds are hypoallergenic, designed as ultra-soft, free of lint, and quilted for strength and durability.

There are three types of materials used for reusable cotton rounds:

Organic Cotton – Reusable organic cotton rounds are made from natural fibers of the cotton plant. It is gentle and soft when used on the skin and is best for people with sensitive skin.

Terry Cloth – This type of material is a woven cotton fabric, like bath towels. These are much rougher on the skin when used, and it gets softer after a few washes.

Flannel
– Of all the three reusable cotton rounds, the flannel is the least absorbent. It is made of soft, smooth, and thin fabric that makes it more comfortable.

Reusable cotton rounds are used for:

  • Make-up removal
  • Nail polish removal
  • Application of astringents, toners, or lotion
  • For medical purposes, it can be used to prevent bleeding, for punctures like injections or venipunctures
  • Used for cleaning or washing a newborn

Up to How Many Times Can Reusable Cotton Pads Be Used?

Reusable cotton pads can be used for up to 500 times or one year. Here’s the exciting part, and let’s find out the significant savings when switching to reusable cotton.

Some of these reusable cotton pads usually have two sides, one side to remove foundation and the other side for eye make-up removal. Now imagine how much you could save if you reused cotton pads, and not throw away five or more each time you remove your make-up.

One piece of disposable cotton round costs around $0.04 and an average woman uses at least five per day. That’s $0.20 minimum a day, and a total of $73 per year. One reusable cotton pad costs $0.44, which lasts for the whole year; even when you use three at a time, you can still save up to $72 per year. How’s that for big savings?

What Is The Best Way To Clean Reusable Cotton Rounds?

The best way to clean reusable cotton rounds is to wash them right after use. Here are additional tips when cleaning these products the more hygienic way and so they’ll last longer.

  • Wash the clean side first (if applicable), so the dirt won’t push further into the cotton.
  • Wash the cotton rounds using body soap and warm water. Don’t forget to rinse it a few times.
  • Avoid using fabric softeners and bleach so it will last longer.
  • Avoid placing them in washing machines and tumble dry. A quick rinse after use with a bar of soap is good enough.
  • Air dry newly washed reusable cotton pads and store them somewhere clean to avoid the collection of dust.

Is It Hygienic To Use Reusable Cotton Rounds?

Yes, it is hygienic to use reusable cotton pads as long as they are cleaned thoroughly. Whether it is used to wipe off mascara or nail polish, when the dirt is rinsed, it doesn’t seep through the cotton. The germs and fungi will only form if the cotton is not washed and air dry properly.

How Long Do Reusable Cotton Rounds Last?

Reusable cotton rounds last up to five years when ten pads at a time are used simultaneously. Some consumers can even attest that it lasts for more than five years when it’s properly taken care of. Of course, these reusable cotton rounds’ lifespan will depend on how often you use them too.

What Are The Benefits Of Using Reusable Cotton Pads?

The most significant benefit of using reusable cotton pads is less waste you left behind. As mentioned earlier, it can help with water conservation, assist with better waste disposal, and even climate change.

Make That Eco-friendly Switch Today

If you have been using disposable cotton rounds, you use at least five cotton rounds a day, which can decompose in a week or a maximum of five months. Why add garbage to our environment when you can go zero-waste?

Now that you are aware of how beneficial reusable cotton rounds are, decide and choose wisely. Your little ways can have significant impact in our environment. This is also a great gift idea for your friends and family and inspire a zero-waste movement within your family and community.

Former Caldecott Broadcast Centre site up for sale for $350 million

11/13/2025

Picture
Perennial Holdings has put the former Caldecott Broadcast Centre (CBC) up for sale via expression of interest (EOI) with a guide price of $350 million, according to a Nov 12 release. Savills Singapore and Delasa are the appointed marketing agents handling the sale.

The integrated healthcare and real estate firm had previously acquired the site from national broadcaster Mediacorp in 2020 through a tender sale for $280.9 million. They had intended to redevelop it into 15 large leasehold good class bungalows (GCBs), spanning 15,070 sq ft to 250,801 sq ft.

However, Perennial Holdings has since shifted its focus towards healthcare, supported by a healthcare-centric real estate strategy. A spokesperson from Perennial Holdings says the firm is “availing the site for sale so that resources can be recaliberated to focus on our core business”.

Situated close to the Caldecott Hill GCB estate in prime District 11, the 752,014 sq ft plot of land is zoned as a ‘Civic & Community Institution’ under URA’s 2019 Master Plan. According to the release, the leasehold site has the potential to be redeveloped into more than 60 two-storey bungalows, with a minimum land area of 8,611 sq ft.

The site is currently vacant, following the demolition of CBC’s facilities. “Few sites offer such a blank canvas to create an entirely new and distinctive landed development,” says Jeremy Lake, managing director of investment sales and capital markets at Savills Singapore.

He adds that developers would benefit from “the considerable groundwork carried out so far, including the demolition of all the structures on site, engagement and master planning”.

The site is a short walk to Caldecott MRT Station (on the Circle and Thomson-East Coast Line) and is within a 2km radius of CHIJ (Toa Payoh), Singapore Chinese Girls’ Primary School, Raffles Institution and St Joseph’s Institution International.

Karamjit Singh, CEO of Delasa, notes that despite persistent growth in Singapore’s economy, wealth and population, the supply of detached homes has remained “virtually unchanged” at around 10,000 units over the last three decades. “This persistent scarcity, coupled with rising household wealth and the arrival of new ultra-high-net-worth residents, continues to support robust demand and pricing in the bungalow market,” he says.

Beyond traditional developers, Singh anticipates the site will also draw interest from ultra-affluent Singaporean families seeking to develop bespoke mansions. “This approach offers three advantages: they can curate a super-luxury enclave to their own design, live as immediate neighbours, and crucially deploy materially less equity by capitalising on the leasehold discount relative to mainstream freehold bungalows,” he believes.

10 Reasons To Use Natural Products For Children

11/13/2025

Picture
There are so many different types of products for children that it can be challenging to find the best and most natural products for our little ones. From food to laundry detergent and cosmetics, avoiding synthetic ingredients can be virtually impossible.

But the question you’re perhaps wondering is why should you be trying to find the best natural products for your children?

Here are 10 good reasons…

Safer For Sensitive Skin

While your adult skin might not have problems with synthetic substances, young children have more sensitive skin, so these chemicals could potentially cause rashes and other skin irritation. Even disposable diapers often contain chemicals that can irritate sensitive skin.

No Carcinogens

Baby powder is something that is nearly always synonymous with childhood, but traditional baby powder contains talc. On its own, talc contains asbestos, which is known to cause cancer. While talc-based products have been free of asbestos since the 1970s, it is still known to increase cancer risk — especially in women who apply talcum powder to their genital area.

No Extra Ingredients

Herbal supplements and vitamins can be a fantastic way to keep your children healthy, but they often contain a lot of extra ingredients that aren’t necessarily good for you or your little ones. Natural vitamins and supplements can offer the same benefits without the additional unhealthy ingredients.

No Chemicals

Traditionally grown produce is often coated in pesticides, herbicides and other dangerous chemicals. While washing your produce before you eat it can help you reduce the amount of these chemicals you ingest, some fruits and veggies end up so steeped in chemicals that no amount of washing can ever make it safe to eat. Switching to organic foods can reduce the number of pesticides you consume and keep your little ones safer.

More Nutrients

Buying organic produce was a fad for a long time, but science has shown that food that is grown organically actually has more nutrients in it than commercially grown foods. Many organically grown vegetables also naturally contain vitamin C, which isn’t found in commercially grown vegetables like lettuce, spinach and potatoes.

Cleaner Dishes

Having a dishwasher can make one of the most annoying chores a little bit easier — but not if your dishwasher is dirty, smelly or leaving residue on your dishes after a wash cycle. Most dishwasher cleaning products use chemicals to get rid of the residue, but if you’re trying to go a little bit greener, you can clean your dishwasher with more natural products like white vinegar or even orange Tang — the citric acid in the latter makes it an effective cleaner and stain remover.

Safer Cleaning

There’s a reason most cleaning products have a warning label that says “Keep out of reach of children.” The chemicals are dangerous — even deadly — if ingested or spilled on the skin. Switching to green or non-toxic cleaning products means there won’t be any dangerous chemicals for your little ones to get into. You can even let them help you with the cleaning!

No Hormones

This isn’t as big of a problem if you don’t consume animal products in your home, but for those who do, commercially farmed meat, fish and dairy often have hormones and antibiotics in it, due to the way the animal was cared for when it was alive. Some fish even contains heavy metals like mercury. Organic animal products help you avoid all of these contaminants. Look for hormone- and antibiotic-free meat, milk, eggs and cheese.

More Sustainable

Commercial farming techniques aren’t sustainable — period. They decimate the local ecosystem, draining nutrients from the soil and adding chemicals like pesticides that can continue to damage the local plants and wildlife. Purchasing naturally grown and sustainably farmed products can help you keep your children healthier while preserving the world they will inherit.

No Worries

Raising a child is stressful enough without worrying about whether their bubble bath or apple slices might be toxic. Switching to natural products for your children can eliminate some of those worries, so you can focus on being a better parent.

Make the Switch to Natural Products

There are plenty of natural products to choose from now since consumers as a whole have started demanding healthier alternatives to traditionally toxic products. It might take some practice, but switching to natural products can help you raise a happier, healthier child in the long run.

The Go-To Daily Skincare Routine

11/13/2025

Picture
Skin, the largest organ of the body. It acts as a barrier and protects your body from harmful things in the outside world, such as the cold and UV rays from the sun, as well as germs and toxic substances.

So, it’s important to keep it as healthy as possible, as it’s the best defence against sensitivities. Not only do you get a better protective barrier, but there are also cosmetic benefits that people value for skin as well.

This go to daily skincare routine suited to anyone in just a few simple steps will help keep your skin protected, happy, healthy and looking and feeling good.

Step 1 – Cleanser

The first step should always be cleansing the skin whether you do it in the evening or morning you need to wash away the dirt and oils that build up.

The recommended time to wash your face would be for 60 seconds, using a gentle circular motion. Wash the cleanser off with warm water. It is also recommended to wash your skin twice to ensure the pores are clean.

There are many cleansers, so you need to find the one designed for your skin type. Generally, for dry skin look out for hyaluronic acid because it draws moisture from the atmosphere and locks it in the skin. Personally, for me, Misumi Skincare’s works well for my skin type, but you’ll have to find out what works best for you.

For oily skin look out for cleanser with salicylic acid as it gently exfoliates the skin and penetrates deep inside the skin’s pores, helping to unclog any excess oil, impurities to prevent breakouts and blackheads and to reveal the healthy layer of skin underneath.

You can also try natural and soft soaps. Raw goat milk soap can be the best choice as it not only hydrates and moisturizes the skin but also can be used as a natural exfoliator.

Step 2 – Toner

This step is not as important as others, but it can be useful.

Toners were created to help return the skin’s pH, but now they can serve multiple purposes. They act as a delivery system for antioxidants, and each type of toner is intended for a different skin issue. If you haven’t used one, there is no need to begin, but if you have a favourite one, there is no harm in continuing to use it.

Step 3 – Serum

This step is when you will apply active ingredients to your clean and toned face. Serums are super concentrated and penetrate deep into your skin so, applying it early in the routine is essential to benefit from the nutrient-dense treatments specific to your concerns.

This list of product ingredients will guide you in the right direction to find the right serum for your skin:

Niacinamide – reduces redness and inflammation.

Hyaluronic acid – replenishes moisture in your skin for a youthful look and feel.

Retinol – anti-ageing ingredient which stimulates production of collagen for a firmer and plumper skin.

AHAs – natural acids derived from plants to keep your complexion clear and vibrant by correcting discoloration and unclogging pores.

There are many more active ingredients to look out for in your serums to improve your skin.

Step 4 – Moisturizer

This is one of the most important steps in your skincare routine. If you have oily skin, you may feel like it just makes your skin oilier, but this isn’t true. If your skin is well moisturized the sebum production is lower, hence less oily skin in the long run.

The best time to apply a moisturizer is while the skin is still damp, the quicker you get through other steps the quicker you can apply your moisturizer and lock in the hydration.

The many benefits of moisturizing are helping your skin to maintain a healthy balance, reduces the appearance of blemishes, helps your skin to stay young and fights wrinkles.

Step 5 – Sunscreen

The holy grail of any skincare routine and the key to skin that keeps looking and feeling good. Depending on which sunscreen you use will depend when to use it. Mineral and physical sunscreen should be applied after moisturizer has set in.

However, it’s more difficult with a chemical one. If applied after moisturizer it won’t be effective, but if done before, moisturizer will not lock in the moisture. So, it’s best to stick to a physical sunscreen with zinc as it safe, effective and provides the best protection against UVA and UVB rays.

Everyone has unique skin and you should listen to it to find what works best for you. A good daily skincare routine will keep your skin protected and feeling and looking as best as it ever has been.
