It hasn't been around for very long, but the organization Rexburg for Refugees is already seeing major success.
"Really the community has made this very successful," said Eric Whitlock, one of the founders of the charity. "It's been awesome to see people come together and help people they don't even know." Rexburg for Refugees' main purpose is to "empower the Rexburg community to get involved in offering aid for the refugee crisis," as stated on their Facebook page. Many of the things Rexburg for Refugee's looks for are basic household/consumer items that are needed on a daily basis. "Everything that you would need to live, they need," said Whitlock. "They need things like shampoos, and conditioners, and hygiene products, and cleaning supplies, and diapers, and wipes." Whitlock says they've seen a lot of people interested in helping. "People need the help, people wanted to help, but they didn't know how," said Whitlock. "So we came in and told them, 'Hey, here's a donation list. Anything you can donate would be great.'" Tonight, Rexburg for Refugees plans to go before the Rexburg City Council in hopes of informing them, and getting their general support for future donation drives. "They like knowing what's going on," said Ian Zollinger, another member of Rexburg for Refugees. "They're well connected in the community. If they want to tell us of other people or other groups and organizations that are working on the same thing and connect us together, I think that would be really helpful."
