SERDANG - The movement control order (MCO) has entered the third phase, but people are still attempting to flout the ruling and giving ridiculous reasons.

Serdang OCPD Asst Comm Ismadi Borhan said his personnel operating the six roadblocks in his district round-the-clock received all sorts of excuses from motorists.

"We had people telling us they wanted to go to the pawnshop and a couple who said they wanted to go to Kampar to fetch their mother."

"We issued them with warnings and directed them to make a U-turn and go home, " he told reporters after visiting the roadblock along Lebuhraya Damansara-Puchong (LDP) here.

He said since the MCO came into force, his personnel had arrested 196 people for defying it.

"We also issued 143 compounds of RM1,000 each (S$330), " he said, adding that his officers were now tightening their enforcement of the MCO for phase three.

ACP Ismadi said they would now arrest those without a valid reason to go out.

"Some people were going out to buy essential items far away from their homes when they could easily just get them from neighbourhood shops. They went out because they wanted to and not because they needed to, " he said.

He urged the public to comply with the MCO.

ACP Ismadi said they had six static roadblocks in his district, including two along the LDP (near the KLH building and near Batu 11 heading towards Shah Alam, Putrajaya).

"The other roadblocks were situated along the Bukit Jalil highway (under the BK5 LRT station), Jalan Putra Permai heading to LDP, Jalan Serdang Raya SR8 heading to Kuala Lumpur and Lestari Perdana LP7 heading toward Equine Park."

"We have also closed four roads - Jalan Batu 7 Jalan Puchong to Jalan Kelang Lama, Jalan Persiaran Puncak Jalil to Bukit Jalil, Jalan Serindit, Puchong Jaya to Taman Wawasan and Jalan Layang-Layang Puchong Jaya to LDP, " he said.
