JOHOR BARU - A new Johor government is expected to be formed with at least 33 assemblymen comprising a new coalition of parties and individuals, says Johor Umno chief Datuk Hasni Mohammad.
He said the Pakatan Harapan-led state government had collapsed and they were now forming a new state government with at least five crossovers from PKR and Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah), though he did not disclose the five names.
"The new government will comprise 14 Umno assemblymen, 11 from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), two from MIC and one from PAS.
"So far, we have statutory declarations (SDs) from the 17 assemblymen from Barisan Nasional and PAS."We are waiting for the SDs from Bersatu and the five assemblymen," he told reporters after meeting with the 17 assemblymen (from Umno, MIC and PAS) at the Johor Umno headquarters here yesterday.
Johor has 56 assemblymen.
Hasni said the formation of the new government was not via "back door" as the present Pakatan government had collapsed following Bersatu's exit from Pakatan.
When asked about the five assemblymen, he said they welcomed them to join one of the parties in the coalition or to be independent or friendly towards the coalition.
Hasni stressed that the new coalition would not have any representative from DAP.
He said they were expected to meet Johor Ruler Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar by Friday.
Presently, Umno has 14 assemblymen followed by Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (11), MIC (two) and PAS (one).
DAP also has 12 representatives followed by PKR (five) and Amanah (nine).
Asked about the Mentri Besar's position, Hasni said traditionally, the party with the biggest number (Umno) would lead.
"But all this depends on Sultan Ibrahim's decision on who will be appointed Mentri Besar, " he added.
The Mentri Besar for now is Bukit Kepong assemblyman Datuk Dr Sahruddin Jamal of Bersatu.
