China explosion: 21 killed in pipeline blast, state media reports

At least 21 people were killed and five others were injured in a pipeline explosion in central China on Thursday, officials said.

The blast occurred when a high-pressure steam pipe burst at a power company facility in Hubei province, the State Administration of Work Safety said in a statement on its website.

A government team responded to the scene to direct rescue efforts and "implement scientific remedies to prevent such an event from happening again," the statement said.
