Juin Teh's Harrowing Experience Walking Across The Causeway From SG To JB May Make You Think Twice About Doing The Same

Malaysia-born Mediacorp actress Juin Teh, 35, is among the many who regularly commute across the Johor–Singapore Causeway for work. While the Star Search 2019 alum is based in Singapore for her showbiz career, she made the decision to move back to Johor Bahru after her rental lease ended last April.

Juin, who often shares snippets of her daily life in Singapore and Johor Bahru on social media, recently shared about her experience crossing the Causeway on foot.

She was heading home to JB during peak hour at about 6pm. While she usually takes the bus home, she "saw the long queue for buses and was already very tired, and didn't want to stand around waiting".

"When I saw other people walking [the Causeway], I decided to follow them," she penned.

So she walked.

However, there came a point in the journey where she had to cross the wide roads at the Causeway to get to the JB checkpoint.

But it proved to be a nerve-wracking experience, especially at peak hour, as vehicles were speeding past pedestrians at close range and honking as they went by.

In the video she shared, she was seen with a group of people, all lined up in a single file on the narrow road shoulder, waiting for an opportune time to cross the road. "It's so scary!" Juin repeatedly exclaimed.

Juin hesitated for a few moments, unsure when to cross, and eventually followed other pedestrians' cue and managed to cross the motorcycle lane first. She presumably made it across the rest of the regular car lanes eventually, though she did not film this (and rightly so).

According to Juin, she has walked across the Causeway before, and regularly too, though she does it early in the morning at 5am when traffic is light.

For those considering doing the same, walking across the Causeway with luggage or strollers is not recommended, as pedestrian infrastructure along certain stretches remains incomplete. Pedestrians are also advised to be extra cautious of their safety.

Many netizens commented on how dangerous the situation appeared, urging her to stay safe. She echoed the sentiment, reminding her followers to “go out happily, and return home safely”.

One netizen chimed in with a reminder: "Very soon, you'll be able to take the train."

The Johor Bahru–Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) project is progressing steadily, with full trial operations slated to begin in July.
