JJ Lin’s Mum Responds To Family Rift Rumours, Says They Remain Close And Prefer To Be Out Of The Spotlight

JJ Lin’s family has found itself unexpectedly thrust into the spotlight in recent days after rumours of a supposed family feud spread rapidly online.

The speculation began when eagle-eyed netizens noticed that the 45-year-old Singaporean singer appeared to have removed photos featuring his brother and sister-in-law from his Instagram and Weibo accounts.

Things escalated further when online users claimed that JJ and his sister-in-law had unfollowed each other on social media, fuelling theories that tensions had emerged within the family over his relationship with 24-year-old influencer Annalisa Qi Qi, whom he went public with last December.

Some netizens even alleged that JJ’s mother had also unfollowed her daughter-in-law, adding more fuel to the rumour mill.

As if that wasn’t enough, a fresh wave of online speculation soon surfaced, claiming that Qi Qi’s father was allegedly linked to a major economic crime case in China involving a reported 1.3 billion yuan (S$244 million).

When approached by Taiwanese media outlet ETtoday, JJ’s management company responded briefly: “The matter has already been handled by [Qi Qi’s] legal team, so our company is not in a position to comment.”

8days.sg also reached out to JJ’s representative, but did not receive a response by press time.

Now, JJ’s mother has stepped forward to address the swirling rumours herself.

Speaking to reporters, the 70-year-old firmly pushed back against the claims, stressing that the Lin family has always been close-knit and harmonious.

She described herself as someone who lives a simple, low-profile life and revealed that she does not use social media at all, aside from occasionally shopping on Taobao for household necessities.

In fact, she said she was baffled by the rumours altogether.

Because she does not have social media accounts, she made it clear there was no truth to claims that she had “unfollowed” her daughter-in-law.

“I only see some of JJ’s news when other people send it to me,” she explained. “I only focus on taking care of my two sons, my daughters-in-law, and my two granddaughters.”

When asked about Qi Qi and whether she approved of her son’s girlfriend, JJ’s mother declined to elaborate.

“There’s no such thing as liking or disliking her. I don’t interfere too much in young people’s matters,” she said.

Her comments come just weeks after she was spotted accompanying JJ to Qi Qi’s graduation ceremony at New York’s Parsons School of Design — a sighting that many fans took as a sign that the relationship had the family’s blessing.

She also stressed that her elder son and daughter-in-law have a harmonious marriage and do not interfere in JJ’s personal affairs.

Ultimately, she said the family prefers to stay out of the public eye and hopes people will stop spreading unverified rumours or attempting to create divisions where none exist — especially when such speculation could affect the younger generation in the family.
