Fan Bingbing Uses At least 700 Facial Masks A Year... And She Has Never Felt Insecure About Her Looks

Think “skin as white as snow” only exists in fairy tales or Disney films? One look at Fan Bingbing in person might change your mind.

Reporters witnessed a real-life princess moment when the 44-year-old made a breathtaking appearance at Jewel Changi Airport.

Clad in an ultra-glamorous, glittering ballgown, Bingbing looked every inch the regal icon as she arrived for the official Singapore launch of her skincare brand, Fan Beauty Diary.

Founded in 2018, Fan Beauty Diary is now available exclusively at Watsons. Earlier that afternoon, she also delighted shoppers with a surprise appearance at the Watsons outlet in Ngee Ann City.

And if there’s one way to gauge an A-lister’s superstar status, it’s the size of her entourage.

As we waited for Bingbing to arrive for our interview at the Jewel suite, at least 15 members of her team were already on standby, their anticipation matching ours.

The air was thick with excitement — until someone suddenly called out: “Jiejie is coming!”

(For context, everyone on her team refers to her as jie jie, which means “big sister” in Mandarin.

Bingbing swept into the room with grace, though she did require the assistance of several crew members to manoeuvre her voluminous gown. Standing next to her for a photo, even we could feel just how rock-hard the flared skirt was.

Still, she maintained a lightness in her step and was soon guided to the refreshments table, where she paused to consider whether she could squeeze in a quick bite before her back-to-back interviews.

Her verdict? “Let’s eat afterwards!” she chirped.

As we sat down with Fan Bingbing for a chat, we found ourselves just inches from her face — close enough to confirm that the hype is absolutely real. Trust us, her skin is indeed flawless.

So, what’s her secret?

Masks. Masks. And more masks.

It’s no surprise then that Fan Beauty Diary’s bestsellers are its extensive range of facial masks, though the brand also offers moisturisers, shampoo and even lip balms.

And yes, she personally tests every single product before it hits the shelves.

“I’ll only know if a product is good after I’ve used it myself. I might just be Fan Beauty Diary’s biggest product manager,” she quipped.

Rumour has it Bingbing uses at least 700 facial masks a year... and she’s happy to confirm it.

"I counted it myself, since I use two a day, that adds up to more than 700 in a year. So the Chinese media are right with their statistics," she chuckled.

During product testing, she’s even gone up to six masks a day, though she’s quick to clarify that this is far beyond what’s recommended.

Naturally, that got us wondering: does Bingbing — whose routine also includes moisturiser, facial oils and massage — actually pay for products from her own brand?

Given the sheer number of masks she goes through, the bill would be eye-watering.

“No,” she cackled.

That said, the lady boss does spend money on other brands’ products, testing them to see what works and to learn from the competition.

Still not convinced how seriously she takes skincare? Here’s proof.

When asked to choose between skipping her phone for a day or skipping her skincare routine, Bingbing didn’t hesitate.

Phone? Gone.

"Skincare is more important. My phone... sometimes I can leave it aside too (laughs) but I still need to do my skincare every day."

It’s a discipline she’s maintained throughout her three-decade-long career.

“This is my 30th year in showbiz. During this time, I’ve never once gone to sleep without removing my make-up,” she said.

“Even if I went out partying and was so tired, or even drunk, that I fell asleep, I’d wake up at 2am and the first thing I’d do is remove my make-up and put on a mask before going back to sleep."

With skin this flawless — and being hailed as one of the most beautiful actresses of her generation — has Bingbing ever felt insecure about her looks?

“I never have,” she cackled without missing a beat.

After all, she’s unapologetically “self-focused.”

"I don’t listen to what people say about me. I have my own opinions about my looks and aesthetics, so I won’t be swayed by noise from the outside.”

Confident as she is, does she still use beauty filters or retouch her photos?

The actress giggled, noting that fans often tell her she “looks the ugliest” in her selfies.

“I feel it’s not too much. I don’t think you need to spend a lot of time editing a photo so anything is fine. Plus, I’m constantly surrounded by professionals these days, I can be more relaxed."

Of course, it helps that she’s been praised for her looks since childhood.

“Oh, for sure I’ve been complimented since I was young, thank you!” she laughed.

With skin like that, who are we to argue?
