Cassandra See Taught Her Son Never To Hold His Girlfriend’s Handbag, And He Still Follows The Rule Today

If you’re dating ex Mediacorp actress Cassandra See’s son, here’s one thing you should know...

You should carry your own handbag.

Lukas Schuler, 25, recently appeared on the 8days’ chat show DNA with his mum, where he revealed the rather specific life rule she taught him growing up.

According to Cassandra, this wasn’t a casual suggestion, it was a core value.

“When he was very young, I taught him, “Lukas, never take the handbag for your girlfriend,” said the 55-year-old.

“Every time I see some guys take handbags for the girl, immediately I look at the guy with a different perspective,” Cassandra adds.

When DNA host Rebecca Lim asked about the psychology behind it, Cassandra replied: “You are a man, and if you are a man, you don’t take a handbag for your girlfriend. But a diaper bag is okay if you have a baby.” Shopping bags are okay too, she added.

“Some girls, I think they like the guy to take the handbag, because they want to show that my boyfriend is taking my handbag for me,” she surmised.

And yes, Lukas’s ex, with whom he'd just ended a four-year relationship with, tried to pull this stunt before.

“It’s so funny. One day, two years ago, [his ex] girlfriend said, 'Lukas doesn’t take [my] handbag for me. He only takes shopping bags, and not my handbag', Cassandra shared.

“I just sat there, kept quiet, then [Lukas] said, 'Ya! My mum taught me not to take handbags for girls'.

If you thought that is intense, it doesn’t stop there.

Cassandra has quite a big say when it comes to Lukas’s dating life.

Are we surprised, though? Cassandra is incredibly affectionate towards her son, a trait that might garner envy from other parents…

Or an uncomfortable girlfriend.

“Some of them get quite upset,” admitted Lukas, to which Cassandra quickly asked, “Really? Who?”

Safe to say, none of them are dating Lukas at the moment.

In fact, Cassandra has made no qualms about how she feels about some of Lukas girlfriends. He says she will tell him straight away if she doesn't think the girl is right for him.

Without giving any examples, Cassandra added: “Then I will say, 'If she does this, she will do [it] to other guys too. So, you think about it, alright?' Then he will break up with the girl”.

Their close mother-son bond is clear to see, and Cassandra shared that she’s always treated Lukas like someone she could talk to openly, even when he was a toddler.

“When he was very young, I shared with him my problems. I just tell him random things, [like] you know, “Today, I went to work, and this is what I experienced, how do you think you can help mummy solve it,” shared Cassandra.

“Even if [he gives] the wrong advice, I'd go, 'Oh that’s a good idea, I will try that'.”

As Lukas got older, he shares everything with his mother too.

“Because he thinks it is very common that we are talking about our problems,” she said.

And it is not something Lukas takes for granted.

“He’s very sweet. Every time he goes through a crisis in life, like a job, and I help him, he will write me a long text. 'Mum, thank you for helping me. I really appreciate what you are doing'," she said.

"It’s very touching when he acknowledges it. He’s grown up.”
